Air India

Air India is the national carrier of India, based in New Delhi. The airline is now owned by Talace Private Limited of Tata Group after privatization from the Government of India. Air India operates Airbus and Boeing aircraft, serving 102 domestic and international destinations. The main hub is Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi, along with several focus cities across India. With 18.6% market share, Air India is India’s largest international airline, connecting over 60 destinations across four continents. On 11 July 2014, it became the 27th member of Star Alliance.

In Feb 2022, shortly after privatization, Air India signed an interline agreement with AirAsia India, its low-cost sister airline under Tata Group to enhance domestic connectivity.

Codeshare Agreements

Air India has codeshare agreements with:

  • Air Astana, Air Austral, Air Canada, Air India Express, Air Seychelles, Avianca, Croatia Airlines, EgyptAir, Ethiopian Airlines, EVA Air, Swiss International Air Lines, TAP Air Portugal, Thai Airways, Turkish Airlines, and more.

The current fleet size of Air India is 111 aircraft.

In-Flight Services

Air India serves meals on all international flights and domestic flights of 90 minutes and above. The in-flight entertainment system, Thales i3000, has Hindi and English channels. Some aircraft, Boeing 777, 747 and 787, have on-demand AVOD systems. The bilingual in-flight magazine, Shubh Yatra, is available in English and Hindi.

Maharaja Lounge

First and Business class passengers can access the Maharaja Lounge at select airports. At airports without a dedicated lounge, Air India shares facilities with partner airlines.

Cabin Classes

  • First Class
    First Class cabins have ethnic interiors and plush carpeting. Only 12 passengers are accommodated, so it’s very private. Seats recline 180°, plenty of legroom and maximum comfort. No middle seats, only window or aisle seats.

  • Executive (Business) Class:Business Class has more legroom and you can move around. Welcome drink and premium service from the experienced cabin crew.

 

  • Economy Class
    Air India’s Economy Class has comfortable and spacious seating. Meals are complimentary and you can choose from Indian and Continental cuisine. Special meal options are available, Indian and Continental, religious meals, dietary meals and children’s meals.

Air India Cancellation Policy

Air India allows cancellation and refund as follows:

  • Tickets can be cancelled within 24 hours of booking for flights departing 7 days or more later and get full refund.

  • If Air India cancels a flight, you can choose an alternative flight or get full refund.

  • For domestic flights delayed by 6 hours or more, passengers may request a refund or take an alternative flight.

  • For domestic flights delayed by 6 hours or more, you can ask for refund or take an alternative flight.

  • In case of denied boarding due to overbooking, Air India must offer a flight within 1 hour; otherwise, passengers are eligible for a full refund plus compensation of up to INR 20,000.
