AirAsia is a Malaysian low-cost airline based in Kuala Lumpur. It is the biggest low-cost carrier in Malaysia, flying to 165 destinations in 25 countries. Its sister airline, AirAsia X, focuses on long-haul. The airline has 100 aircraft. AirAsia has been awarded World’s Best Low-Cost Carrier by Skytrax for 13 years, including 2022. Affiliate airlines are AirAsia India and Thai AirAsia.
History
Previously, AirAsia X operated Airbus A340-300 jets for ultra-long-haul flights to the UK (London Heathrow, Stansted, Manchester). These were retired due to high fuel costs and operational efficiency improvements.
